NLRB bans "captive audience" meetings

Earlier today the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a ruling prohibiting employers from holding mandatory anti-union meetings at work, a long-sought policy objective of unions that want to level the playing field with corporations in organizing campaigns. Read more »


ZeniMax Workers on strike

The members of ZeniMax Workers United-CWA, one of the largest video game unions in the United States, have gone on strike. The action involves workers in ZeniMax offices in Texas and Maryland, who do quality assurance work. Workers are striking over claims that ZeniMax has failed to address issues regarding remote work and outsourcing. Read more »


 AFSCME Maryland decries state government's understaffing

Staffing levels remain critically low nearly two years after Gov. Wes Moore took office and promised to address the state’s workforce shortage. Roughly 10% of the state government positions represented by AFSCME Maryland are vacant — about 2,000 positions. Read more »

Union Wins

Congratulations to ACLU Staff United, represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, IFPTE Local 70, who ratified their first collective bargaining agreement with ACLU on November 12! The four-year contract, establishes workplace protections, transparent and fair pay, and more equitable policies. Read more »


Congratulations to UNITE HERE Local 23 members at Guest Services, Inc. who ratified a great new contract! "I’m so proud of everything in this contract," said Yvette B., a Shop Steward and Cook at the Navy Yard Cafeteria. "These raises will mean I won’t have to be so stressed about money, and I’m proud that we won free health insurance for all our coworkers starting in January. We stood up to Guest Services and we won!"

Every year at holiday time, the Community Services Agency (CSA) of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO provides holiday baskets to families who could use a little extra support.
