Unions and residents push to avert $1 billion hit to DC budget
On Friday the Senate unanimously passed a stand-alone bill to allow the District to continue with its 2025 budget without interruption after House Republican lawmakers passed a spending bill that effectively canceled it — a stunning turnaround. The Washington Teachers' Union, ATU Local 689, and thousands of DC Public School students and local residents came together to stop the attack on DC's autonomy. The bill will head to the House of Representatives next week.
Hundreds rally in Maryland over labor-friendly legislation
Hundreds of union members from across the state and region joined the "Whose Side Are You On" rally on Monday at Lawyers Mall at the State House in Annapolis to call on lawmakers to pass labor-friendly legislation. Federal court orders reinstatement of fired federal probationary employees
In February, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled that OPM's firing of probationary federal workers was illegal.
On Thursday, the court ordered fired workers be reinstated. AFGE, AFSCME, United Nurses Associations of California, and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO are leading the fight. Read more »
