TWU wins largest wage increase for on-board workers in Amtrak history, with paid family leave

The Transport Workers Union of America secured the largest wage increase for Amtrak workers in the agency’s 53-year history after on-board service workers overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new seven-year contract on Tuesday.

The new contract includes a 34 percent compounded wage increase over seven years. TWU Local 1460 represents 360 Amtrak on-board service workers, the vast majority on Amtrak’s busy Northeast Corridor. 


"How do I provide for my family?" Hundreds of DC Circulator bus drivers get notices of permanent layoffs

Hundreds of DC bus drivers are worried about providing for their families now that they are out of a job. On Monday, employees of the DC Circulator received notices of permanent layoffs


"The Union only received a few hours notice of the DDOT announcement," ATU Local 689 said in a statement. "Local 689 has been consistent in our calls to bring over Circulator workers and integrate soon-to-be defunct routes into the Metrobus network."


No deal in sight in Kroger Richmond/Tidewater contract negotiations

UFCW Local 400 met with Kroger representatives yesterday and received proposals from the company regarding Health & Welfare benefits, pay scales, and more.

"Kroger remains far apart from us on nearly every single issue. The company is also continuing to refuse to recognize the union at nine stores where a majority of associates have signed up to join UFCW Local 400." Read more »


Construction firm owes $3.75 million in back pay for workers along with penalties and fees

More than 1,200 construction workers will receive restitution for lost compensation and sick leave as part of the largest workers’ rights settlement in the District’s history, according to the D.C. Office of the Attorney General.

Under the terms of the settlement, a construction firm that has worked on more than 200 projects in the region has agreed to pay out $3.75 million in back pay, civil penalties and attorney’s fees as part of a broader push by the attorney general’s office to enforce D.C. wage laws. Read more »
