Nominate a Leader for this year’s Evening with Labor Awards

Every year the Evening with Labor Awards recognize labor leaders and allies who have shown dedication, courage, and commitment to the labor movement and working families.

Nominations are currently open for Evening with Labor's 2025 Awards! If you know an outstanding leader who deserves to be recognized for their efforts this past year, make a nomination for this year's Awards.

This year's Awards will recognize leaders in nine categories.

  • JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trade Unionist of the Year — Awarded to a union member who has demonstrated a commitment to all areas of the labor movement, including political activity, community services and local union support activities. 

  • District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland COPE Awards — Awarded for participation in voter registration, legislative activity, and GOTV campaigns.

  • Thomas M. Bradley Community Services Award Awarded for participation with the Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO or involvement in union-sponsored community services programs.

     

  • Organizing Award — Awarded to the local union that has organized the largest number of members.

  • Golden Picket Award — Awarded to a local union that turned out the most members for a mobilization, protest, or campaign.

  • Outstanding Citizen or Outstanding Ally Award — Awarded to a labor ally who has demonstrated dedication to promoting the rights and welfare of workers and their families and the advancement of the labor movement.

  • Joslyn N. Williams Vanguard Award — Awarded to an individual for impacting the future of the labor movement beyond traditional means.

In addition, we are excited to introduce two new Award categories this year:

  • Legal Champion Award — This award will recognize a firm or individual that has demonstrated consistent  leadership, commitment, and dedication to promoting the legal rights of union workers and the advancement of the labor movement.  

  • Emerging Leaders — This award will honor an individual under the age of 35 years old who has demonstrated leadership, initiative, innovation, and upholds the principles of solidarity and equity in the labor movement.
